Work takes up a lot of time in people’s lives; many people can spend over 40 hours at work at week. Most of the time, those 40 hours or more are spent in the company of the same people; your trusted colleagues.
Now this is a lot of time to spend with people which is why it is often important to ensure that you get along with them. There can be nothing worse than hating someone with a passion and being forced to spend over 40 hours a week with them!
On the other hand, you also have to ensure that you are the kind of person they want to work with. But the best thing is to try and become everyone’s favourite co-worker. If they like you and in turn, you like them, then work is guaranteed to be much more enjoyable for everyone making the office environment more pleasant!
We’ve put together some simple tips that are the perfect way to be everyone’s favourite, making life for you easier.
Bringing snacks in is the ideal way to endear yourself to people with minimal effort required. Nearly everyone loves it when food is brought in as it will satisfy those little cravings everyone has at work.
It’s the perfect way to show your colleagues that you thought of them and wanted to make everyone smile. Or even better, homemade goodies will show that you spent your own time making yummy treats for everyone.
The coffee round, or tea round depending on the preferences, is often seen as one of the most important rituals in the office. Offer to make a round for everyone and you will become the office hero quickly enough. Have a look at the large range of coffee products available on OPInfo.net!
This is also a great tip for anyone just starting a job as making drinks could be a quick and easy way to get to know people!
Always thank people when they have done something for you, no matter how small it is. It may be easy to simply forget to say thank you, but sometimes it may end up annoying the other person that their efforts have gone apparently unnoticed. Simply give them a quick verbal thanks, or even send them an email expressing your gratitude.
One of the best ways to get to know your colleagues more personally is to have an event outside of work. This will allow you all to communicate without the pressures of the work environment as well as allowing you to actually get to know your colleagues and have some fun times.
Bowling makes a great work night out.
As such, be the person that arranges a night out somewhere! Send an email with some suggestions for places and dates then arrange it all. People will appreciate the thought that they can have a night out somewhere as well as the fact that they don’t have to arrange anything! Perhaps even offer to take people to the event and back home to gain some bonus points!
Don’t worry though; you don’t always have to arrange an event. Even just the simple act of turning up to the events and being a true team player by getting involved will be appreciated. It will also allow you to showcase your best side to your colleagues and get to know them better.
Are you the favourite in the office or are you more content to just be in the background? Why not let us know your tips to endear yourself to colleagues?
