UK Office Supplies Industry Cycles to Beat Cancer

On Friday 7th September 2018, the office supplies industry will take to their bikes to raise money for the Institute of Cancer Research in the first ever Ride for Life.

Coordinated by Sean Starkey, Managing Director of Durable (UK) and a small committee of volunteers, the Ride of Life (ROL) hopes to tap into the increasing popularity of road cycling whilst raising much needed donations to beat cancer.

The Ride of Life

The special event is expected to boost donations alongside the annual Climb of Life, which is now in its 11th year. Last year, in 2017, the COL raised an impressive £100,000 for the fourth consecutive year for the Institute of Cancer Research. The ICR is the largest cancer centre in Europe. It works alongside many international medical and research organisations who strive together to find a cure for the terrible disease.

Commencing at the ICR campus in Sutton, Surrey, riders can choose between two challenging routes through areas of outstanding natural beauty southwest of London. The longer 100km (65 miles) route will take riders through the iconic climbs of Leith Hill and Box Hill while a shorter 67km (37 miles) sees riders up Box Hill – a place where much of the action of the 2012 Olympic road race took place.

The Power of Cycling

20 industry executives have already put themselves forward for participation, with more expected to join in.

Proud to support the event, COL Chairman Graeme Chapman MBE who formed COL 31 years ago, said: “I’m delighted that the ROL has been created, providing the opportunity to involve those who have not been involved with COL and with the aim of raising more funds for the excellent ICR. Our aim is to again raise more than £100,000 this year and I wish each rider the best of luck for their fundraising.”

ROL organiser Sean Starkey added: The Ride of Life committee and I are delighted to be supporting the ICR with this new initiative, as well as the sterling and continued work done by Graeme and his Climb of Life team.”

To anyone that’s involved in the first Ride of Life, here’s a big “Good Luck” from all of us at OPInfo.
